Mera sohna Punjab

Know punjab?????
Punjab, a region in Northern India and the east side of Pakistan, has a long history and rich cultural heritage. The people of the Punjab are called Punjabis and they speak a language called Punjabi. The three main religions in the area are Sikhism, Hinduism, and Islam. The region has been invaded and ruled by many different empires and races, including the Aryans, Persians, Greeks, Egyptians, Afghans, and Mongols. Around the time of the 15th Century, Guru Nanak Dev founded the Sikh religion, which quickly came to prominence in the region, and shortly afterwards, Maharaja Ranjit Singh reformed the Punjab into a secular and powerful state. The 19th Century saw the beginning of British rule, which led to the emergence of several heroic Punjabi freedom fighters. In 1947, at the end of British rule, the Punjab was split between Pakistan and India .

Sikh Information

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the Enlightener who dispelled delusion and brought awareness

Being the Guru he is One with God. It is impossible to make an estimate of his greatness as a person, fo
r the Guru is not a person. He is Light. The Guru's glories are infinite, and therefore unfathomable and inexpressible. No one can estimate the Guru's greatness, only pay homage to the Guru by expressing his glories as seen in the play of his phenomenal life.

The first sikh settler in UK

I was surfing BBC website and I came across an article about first recorded sikh settler in UK.

"The first recorded Sikh settler in Britain was Maharajah Duleep Singh. Duleep Singh was the last ruler of the Sikh kingdom of Punjab.

The Maharajah was dethroned after six years' rule, and exiled to Britain in 1849 at the age of 14, after the Anglo-Sikh wars.

There is a statue to the Maharajah at Butten Island, Thetford, Norfolk, near the Elveden Estate where he lived in Britain. The statue was unveiled by the Prince of Wales in 1999.

Despite the early arrival of the Maharajah, the first Sikh Gurdwara (temple) was not established until 1911, at Putney in London."
